Information about the Target data breach

The safety and security of your finances are most important to us.

We want to keep you informed of the actions that Farmers & Merchants Bank is proactively taking to monitor and protect your account after the recent data breach announced by Target on credit and debit card purchases made at Target stores between the dates of November 27 and December 15.

As A Valued Client, We Want You To Know

  • The safety and security of your finances are most important to us, as it has been for 106 years, since F&M was founded.
  • You do not need to contact us, unless you see a transaction that you do not recognize.
  • We have fraud protection software systems in place that monitor and look for unusual spending and withdrawal patterns that help us block fraudulent transactions and will contact you if we see unusual activity on your account.
  • All F&M Bank Debit and Credit Cards have Zero Liability Protection, which means you may not be held liable for any unauthorized transaction that you report to us in a timely manner.
  • You will receive a new card, if we determine that it’s necessary.

What Do You Need to Do?

  • Continue using your F&M Bank credit card and/or debit card, as normal.
  • You can monitor your accounts by logging in to online banking at fmb.com. You can also monitor your checking account through your mobile app. If you see a transaction you do not recognize, contact our ATM/Debit Card Department at (562) 344-2346 for Debit card transactions or our Bankcard Services Department at (562) 344-2356 for Visa card transactions immediately.
  • For F&M Bank Visa cardholders, you can enroll in our free Visa Alerts and receive notifications via text, phone or email about approaching your credit limit, online activity and irregular purchases. Enroll by logging into your F&M Visa account online.

Please note that we will be closed January 1, 2014.

Money Market accounts are limited to six withdrawals or transfers to another account of yours or to a third party by means of a preauthorized or automatic transfer or telephone order or instruction, computer transfer, or by check, draft, debit card or similar order to a third party. Exceeding these limitations may result in transfer of your account to one that pays no interest. A separate application and agreement are required for an ATM card, Online Banking, and Bill Pay privileges. Other transaction limitations or account fees may apply. Home equity lines of credit are available for both primary residence and second home locations. The plan has a variable rate feature. The index is the prime rate as published in the Wall Street Journal with a minimum floor rate of 4.750%. Maximum combined loan to value is 55.00% with line amounts available up to $500,000. All loans require credit approval. Terms and conditions may vary. Consult your tax advisor regarding deductibility of interest.
