LONG BEACH, CA (MAY 9, 2018) - Farmers & Merchants Bank (F&M), one of the strongest commercial and retail banks in California, announced a $1 Million extension of credit to Anaheim Family YMCA for completion of phase one of a new facility. A design by Dougherty Architects, LLP serves as the basis for this community capital project..

The proposed 3.8 acre, 16,800 square foot facility adjacent to Betsy Ross Park will bring much needed amenities including arena soccer fields, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, climbing walls, teaching kitchen, and multi-function spaces for local residents. The YMCA project will promote a sense of belonging for people of every age.

The Anaheim Family YMCA currently impacts over 7,000 youth and their families each day across Anaheim, Stanton, Cypress, and La Palma. This new YMCA community facility will expand the Y’s impact and cause-driven mission to thousands more and address specific needs of the surrounding community. “After several years of planning and support from our partners and donors, the Anaheim Family YMCA is preparing for a ceremonial ground breaking on June 29,” said Rick Martens, YMCA President and CEO. “This extension of credit from F&M Bank has helped to make this possible.”

“Since 1907 F&M Bank has been committed to investing in the communities in which we serve,” said Henry Walker, F&M Bank President. Walker continued, “Our history with the YMCA dates back to the late 1800s when my great-grandfather and founder of F&M Bank, C.J. Walker, sat on the board of Long Beach’s first YMCA.”

“I’ve found it to be most rewarding to see the outpouring of support from business and individual sponsors for the Anaheim community,” said Scott Dowds, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager at F&M Bank.” Rick Martens, CEO of the Anaheim Y, and his team have been dynamic in bringing this project to fruition. It will serve as central location for families and children for many years to come.”
