Korean American Chamber of Commerce Orange County Community Leadership Award
Sandy Thomas, F&M Bank Garden Grove Vice President and Relationship Manager, was awarded the Community Leadership Award at the Korean American Chamber of Commerce Orange County’s annual gala on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Past KACCOC president, J.J. Kim of J.J. Kim and Associates, P.C., nominated Thomas for her significant contributions in community development and improvement initiatives in Garden Grove for over 38 years. Sandy is the only person to serve three consecutive terms as the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board. She is also a current member of the chamber’s Government Affairs Committee and serves as the Vice President on the Board of Directors for the Acacia Adult Day Services. In addition, Sandy sits on the Advisory Board for the Garden Grove Assistance League and is a Scholarship Reader for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. YWCA of North Orange County 2013 Man and Woman of the Year
Scott Dowds, F&M Senior Vice President and Regional Manager, and his wife Jane were named the 2013 Man and Woman of the Year by the YWCA of North Orange County. A fixture in North Orange County, Scott is the current past president of the Fullerton Rotary Board of Directors and previous chairman of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce. He served as a director of Eastside Christian Schools and the Fullerton Boys & Girls Club. He currently sits on the planning committee for the Fullerton Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and as treasurer of the Los Hombres Amigos Foundation. As a counselor with the Long Beach Unified School District, Jane helped disadvantaged youth deal with academic challenges, social and family issues during a 30-year career. She also worked as a counselor in the Multicultural Studies Program at Cerritos College. The YWCA recognized Scott and Jane at its 21st annual Chocolate Fantasy Gala on February 8, 2013.
National Philanthropy Day Orange County Award
Farmers & Merchants Bank was the recipient of the National Philanthropy Day Orange County Award in the Outstanding Mid-size Corporation or Business category at a special celebration held at the Hyatt Regency Orange County on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Well-known in Southern California for its focus on service above self and dedication to enriching the communities it serves, F&M was selected by the judging committee of National Philanthropy Day Orange County for this honor. F&M extends supports to a range of Orange County organizations, donating more than $1 million annually to support the arts, children’s services, employment, community development and many other worthy causes. National Philanthropy Day Orange County honors those who have demonstrated philanthropy and enhanced their communities and the world. This is a special day set aside for the purpose of recognizing the great contribution philanthropy makes to society – and to honor individuals, businesses, and support organizations that are active in the philanthropic community. In 1986 President Ronald Reagan proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day.
Garden Grove Citizen of the Year
Sandy Thomas, branch manager of F&M’s Garden Grove office, has been named Garden Grove Citizen of the Year by the Cypress College Foundation. The Garden Grove native was recognized for her longstanding commitment to the community and strong commitment to service. Having worked in the city for more than 25 years, Sandy is currently in her third term as Chairman of the Board of the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce, serves on the Board of Directors of Acacia Adult Day Services and sits on the Advisory Board for the Garden Grove Assistance League. The award was presented at the Foundation’s 37th Annual Americana Awards Banquet on Saturday, February 25.
Women Helping Women
Christine Walker, a Vice President at Farmers & Merchants Bank, was honored by Women Helping Women (WHW) for her activism and leadership in the community and her exemplary skills as a female executive in the banking industry. The honor was presented at “The Star Within” gala on April 1, 2011, WHW’s 7th annual Models of Success program designed to raise awareness and funds for the organization.
Athena Award - Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce
Marty Hartsock, former branch manager of F&M's Huntington Beach office, received the Athena Award from the Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce for her impact on creating paths for women in the beach community. The award, which was presented on January 27, 2011, recognizes women around the country who demonstrate excellence, initiative and creativity in their careers, contribute time and energy to improving the lives of women in their communities and actively assist other women in realizing their full leadership potential.
YMCA Chairman’s Distinguished Service Award
Christian Buell, a loan officer at F&M's Fullerton office, received the YMCA Chairman's Distinguished Service Award for his work with the North Orange County YMCA. The award, which was presented on April 29, 2010, is given each year to an active volunteer that has gone above and beyond to serve the kids, families, and members at each location.
Preservation Award – Long Beach Heritage
Daniel Walker, F&M's Chairman of the Board and CEO received the preservation award on Feb. 18, 2010 from Long Beach Heritage for his role in restoring the original bank lobby in downtown Long Beach.
Condit Spirit Award
The Condit Spirit Award was presented to Farmers & Merchants Bank at a special gala on November 21, 2009, to honor the bank's exceptional commitment, significant charitable support, and volunteer service to the Community Hospital of Long Beach Foundation.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County honored CEO W. Henry Walker at its 45th Annual Gourmet Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Irvine on November 5, 2009. Serving as a board member for the past six years, Walker played an instrumental role in generating support and increasing involvement for the organization's programs.
Music for the Cure
F&M partnered with two causes significant to the Orange County community to present the first-ever "Music for the Cure" concert on September 12, 2009. Supporting breast cancer screening and awareness along with Orange County's Pacific Symphony, this collaboration featured F&M CEO W. Henry Walker as he addressed an audience of more than 7,000 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.
Ernst & Young Lifetime Achievement Award
Kenneth, Daniel, and W. Henry Walker of Farmers & Merchants Bank were collectively honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award. The Walkers received this prestigious, rarely given award at the yearly gala on June 11, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine.
CFO of the Year – Lifetime Achievement Award
F&M's John Hinrichs received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the CFO of the Year Awards celebration held at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine on January 14, 2009. The award was given on behalf of the Orange County Business Journal and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Kenneth, Daniel and W. Henry Walker were presented the Longevity Award at the 2008 Family Owned Business Awards Luncheon held on November 19th of that year. The Orange County Business Journal (OCBJ) and California State University, Fullerton’s Family Business Council hosted the event.
